| | Estoy muy insatisfecho, debido a que estoy en trámite de la licencia y no me han dado respuesta eficaz desde el pasado mes de Enero que solicité la habilitación del examen de TLA. Adicionalmente me acerco personalmente a la Aeronática y no me dejan ingresar al derpatamento de Licencia y cuando la persona de seguridad llama a la oficina de licencias, siempre dice que no contestan o las extensiones están descolgadas.

| | Honestly, this makes me a little crabby. Why are men so obsessed with “why” you need or say something? I suppose the perfect world for men is where no one ever talks because apparently the only reason they can think of that anyone ever does is bound to be underhanded.
What’s wrong with a guy just saying, “What a terrible thing. Would you like to tell me more about it?”
Why does he have to need to assume she has an agenda in revealing it? She says it because it’s part of who she is. Obviously he can’t fix it. It already happened. The only agenda she has is that now he knows it, she can refer to it if she wants to.
What if they’re at a party and she talks to a lawyer and he says, “how do you know that guy?” and she says, “oh, he was the prosecutor in the rape case.” How do you suppose her boyfriend is going to react at that moment, “WHY DIDN’T YOU TELL ME!!!!!!????”
She can’t win for losing. Dang.

A friend of mine found a book called >a href=”http://www.imheart.net/index.html”>I.M. Heart. It gives tools and strategies on working though feelings. How to face and accept our feelings rather than having them control our daily lives. Anyway, it was a great read and valuable for those who are interested.

Look, if someone wants to argue that men and women both shouldn’t sleep around because it’s damaging to society, I can understand that argument even if I don’t agree with it. It's a bit of a chicken and egg senario. He won't be dominant and enter into a 'Taken in Hand' relationship while I am such a COW to him (mainly through frustration) and I cannot be well behaved and submissive until he becomes dominant.
We have now been going on like this for over a year. How can we resolve this?

Just because or else
It doesn't work quite like that for me. I mean, I don't on the whole obey my husband because I am afraid of the consequences if I don't. What happens is if there is something I'm supposed to do that I am reluctant to do, I'll get told something like "You will do this, and I will not have you defying me" or "Who is the master here?" and I find that any spirit of definace collapses immediately and I feel quite compliant again. Likewise if I'm in a bad mood or sulky or something he'll just say something like "Having one of your little moments, are you?" or "Don't get funny with me, or you know what will happen", and I find that my bad mood just ebbs away. It's not so much that I do things for fear of the consequences, as that my husband is able, quite easily, to banish any feeling of defiance or resistance and make me want to do as I'm told.
This is slightly different from how I envisiged it being at the beginning of our Taken In Hand relationship. I was so surprised and grateful when my husband seemed to understand what I wanted, and to be willing to try it, that I was sure that I was going to be a model of domestic compliance and would happily do everything he told me to do and never argue with him or get annoyed about anything. The tide of gratitude carried me along for a while as I threw myself into domesticity with increased enthusiasm if not competence. However, the glow soon wore off and I found to my dismay that I could still be sulky or resentful if told to do something, or told off for not having done something I was supposed to. That my husband was not in the least disturbed by this, but just took it in his stride, was a big surprise to me, but a very pleasant one. He just assumes that it is his job to make me behave myself.
This in fact is what he is supposed to be doing from a 'traditional' point of view. In Gillis's other book "For Better or Worse: British Marriages 1600 to the Present", he points out that the man was supposed to be able to keep order in the home. If a man was known to have a nagging or adulterous wife, social disapproval tended to be directed more at him than at her, because he was seen to have failed to keep his wife in order. In much the same way I suppose that nowadays people say "I blame the parents" when they talk about unruly or problem children, a badly behaved wife was seen as a failure on her husband's part to control her properly. Although I am not by inclination either nagging or adulterous, I can be very temperemental, and I find it intensely pleasurable when my husband is able to override these rebellious feelings and make me compliant again.

How we relate
Forty something wife, I really liked reading what you wrote here. It reminded me that one of my very favorite things about my relationship with my husband is that I am not allowed to be bitchy or rude. It's been wonderful learning a new way to relate to men. No bitching about him being late, or not doing dishes, or anything.
As some have pointed out, it doesn't mean you have to suppress feelings. I am encouraged (required?) to pass on information, with humility and kindness. "Sir, I'm having trouble with something..." When I'm too angry, I say "I can't help it! I'm PISSED OFF!" and he listens, then we work it out.
And like another poster mentioned, it's is SO nice for him to come to me, trying to approach gently, then if I refuse him, taking me in hand, or in arms, literally, until I relax into him. It's such closeness and relief. :)
I am hearing of more and more cases in which articles from Taken In Hand have been used without attribution and without permission, and even worse, in some cases individuals are claiming to have written the articles themselves.
While it is very nice that people like Taken In Hand articles so much that they want to claim to have written them themselves and use them elsewhere, this is wrong, and I ask everyone please not to do it.
You don't need to steal articles. I am not unreasonable. If you want to use an article of mine, and you ask my permission, I will give permission if you attribute it properly, state that it was first published on Taken In Hand and include the URL of the original article. In the case of an article by someone else, I will ask the author if he or she will give permission. Usually people are happy to give permission. There is no excuse for stealing articles.
Note that I am not talking about cases like one reader described here. If you want to use material from articles on this site to give information (privately) about what you want, relationshipwise, to the one you love, like this reader did, and you don't want to scare him or her by mentioning the website in the first instance, that is fine. If you are not sure if what you want to do falls into this category or one of the other categories, simply ask me. I will not deny any reasonable request.

Others ask how they can get their significant other to accept a relationship on “taken in hand” terms.
I believe dissection of “taken in hand” relationships would reveal the most successful ones employ the “pull method” much more than the “push method”. This may hold true for relationships on any other terms as well. We all know it's better to pull something heavy than it is to push it (think of front-wheel drive vs. rear-wheel drive). If you're feeling bogged down in your attempts to create a “taken in hand” relationship, perhaps a change from pushing to pulling will make a difference for you.

authority is somehow not open to abuse? Are you suggesting that women who are not under their husband's authority are less abusive to their husbands than women who are under their husband's authority? Are you suggesting that the modern, liberated woman is somehow less self-centred and less deceitful than her counterpart of one hundred or one thousand years ago? Are you suggesting that one marriage model is better than the other? Whatever it is that you are trying to suggest, perhaps you could express it clearly and give it some context because that might form the beginnings of an interesting discussion. Merely remarking that abuse happens is a little like remarking that sometimes people get headaches; without knowing the exact circumstances it is hard to be confident about the remedy. Not all headaches arise from a blow to the head, and many of them are self inflicted.
As far as I am aware, nobody on this forum, is, or ever has been, advocating abuse of any sort. On the contrary most people seem to be trying to find ways to create constructive and wholesome relationships and resolve problems harmoniously. The fact that some people not participating on this forum (and who are thus unable to explain their actions and circumstances so that we can form a valid judgement) happen to have been (allegedly) abusive within a particular relationship model doesn't seem to me to be particularly relevant.

Well, yes, that is what I was trying to say. I much prefer to live in a society where it is assumed that a marriage will be an equal partnership, than one where it is assumed to that the husband will be in charge, will have the right to tell his wife what to do, beat her etc. To be able to choose to accept your husband's authority, if that is what you wish, is sexy. If it was compulsory, it wouldn't be sexy at all. Voluntary sumbission is sexy. Compulsory submission isn't. And this site is for people who choose to be in a male-led relationship, rather than for those who believe that male-led relationships should be compulsory. I prefer a male-led marriage for myself, but I don't believe it's the only way marriage can, or should, be. I had the impression from your comment that you regretted the days when male authority in a marriage was compulsory rather than voluntary, but perhaps I was mistaken.

While I will admit that as a woman I may have less muscle mass than a man, and that my spatial perception may not be as good, that does not make me an impractical person. It also does not make me a snob who sees certain tasks beneath me because I am a woman. I am probably one of the lower dominance female's that posts here. I am definitely not an alpha female in any regard, but I do have self respect. Part of that means I won't dumb myself down, intellectually or physically, for anyone. I still have a lot of trouble backing into parking spaces, so I still practice it. One day it may be necessary, just as parallel parking proved to be.
In regard to my clothing, I'm sorry, but fashion has to follow function. I'm not a model. In life, I am expected to be a functioning adult. This means I do wear pants most days. In my job, I happen to spend a lot of time sitting or crouching on the floor near students, while this can be done in a lady-like fashion in some dresses, in most, it is far less lady-like than simply wearing a nice pair of slacks is. Sometimes, I need to be able to sprint after a child. To do this, I need to wear decent shoes. Because I have foot problems, this usually means sneakers, though I do have a nice pair of comfortable flats that I wear on occassion.
As for what is appealing to my boyfriend: blue jeans, the tighter the better. I also have a pair of black slacks that he really likes. He likes anything that emphasizes my butt. Not many dresses do that. Sure, a woman in a pencil skirt in stilletos may turn some heads, but a woman in a nice pair of blue jeans can do the same thing. Why else would Mel McDaniel write this song?

Clothes shopping
Always find it such a shame when i see men out shopping for clothes with their partners, and they have got that "I'm so bored" look on their faces, and seem to take no pleasure in what they are doing.
Since my wife and I first met, I have always found shopping to be fun... yes... let me repeat that... shopping is fun. There is nothing I enjoy more than the look of sheer pleasure my wife gets when she finds something that, she thinks that she looks good in, but wants my approval, and enjoys hearing that I think she looks gorgeous.

Overcoming her wilful stoicism
It is not so much that my wife wants more spanking than I can give, it is that she forces me to spank her more than I want to by going all silent and stoic from commencement of the spanking.
In more than 20 years she has never 'willingly' allowed herself to be spanked.
My wife's reaction during the opening phase of a spanking partly fits within your description - she still stubbornly refuses to emit the slightest squeak at first, and in the early days I often found myself torn between a desire to spank her even harder, until the verbal counterpoint was coming up from the floor to set off the staccatto percussion on her bottom - or to relent, for fear of doing her serious injury or bruising her.
More often than not, in those early days, I relented, and ended up releasing her, spanked, yes, but far, far from chastened.
I should say, at this point, that this lady, although cultured and educated, is something of a spitfire and is not the type to demonstrate co-operation by placidly lying across my knees
Over time, I have developed ways to get her vocal chords going in order that she can express her submission verbally. At first - and I know it seems corny - I used the technique so common in "British" spanking and caning literature - i.e., making her count out loud each spank as it connected. I did not do this for the usual reason, (to add some picquant humiliation to her experience) - but to get her voice going.
What I have found is that a woman can be very stoic and take a heck of a lot of spanking, and if she is determined enough, can remain silent.
So, I always ensure that a successive spank lands on her bottom while she is calling out the number of the last, and immediately her voice breaks, midstream, into a shrill falsetto.....
"Thur-reee-EEEEE!! Agh!".
Something like that.
Then I increase the rapidity of the spanking so she has trouble keeping pace with her counting.
Women are articulate creatures, and silence, stoic or otherwise, is not natural to them.

And when you have inner resources, you have less need to keep yourself rigidly separate from the other person for fear of being overwhelmed and subsumed into unhealthy co-dependence. All I was saying is that fierce independence is not always a sgn of healthy psychology and a good relationship: sometimes it can indicate precisely the opposite.
I wonder what proportion of women who are in the BDSM community, or who read BDSM erotica, or indeed some of the more raunchy romance novels, might like to be in a Taken In Hand relationship. We certainly seem to get a lot of women coming here from elsewhere.

Getting it from their own husbands
The thing is, many people prefer to keep the details of their sex lives private, they don't want to broadcast it to the world, so there is no way of knowing how many coupls may be living a Taken In Hand lifestyle without necessarily wanting it widely known. They may not be sublimating their desires, they may be getting what they want from their own husbands, but they don't necessarily want eveyone knowing the details.
Remember what Mrs Patrick Campbell said "I don't care what people do as long as they don't do it in the street and frighten the horses" People may be doing whatever they want in their own homes, but they keep quiet about it because they don't want to frighten the horses.

May I suggest, though it is only a small sample of 78, that the 60% who could identify fully and 24% partially with the recent poll on the posting, 'Alternative Therapy', suggests that many of us are leading a very different lifestyle from that which is commonly believed to exist out in the big wide world.
The poll result does not surprise me at all and, without 'seeking converts', let us try and find out how common our 'different' lifestyle is... I suspect we would find, perhaps not very scientifically, that it is very common.
Since we cannot be identified and, rightly, want to keep our identity private, why not let us, hopefully normal, articulate, free-thinking people, married or in long-term relationships, respond more freely to polls such as this.

The Deceptive 'Me'..
I have not been single for a few years, but I remember vividly what 'being me' felt like when trying to meet and greet. In fact, the more 'I' was, the more it seemed to off put the other potential. And like Missy, I felt disheartened. But I clung to my guns and was able to 'sort' through who could relate to me and vise versa. Oddly enough there were so many who were 'intrigued' by me. And I by them, but more often I was the one left disappointed. Not from myself, but by those who felt threatened or confused by what they saw and what came out of my mouth.
But I will stand by this. While I can't claim to being the most 'open' during courtship, I was nothing short of me. Back then, Gary says I was razor sharp, very thoughtful about any reply and very funny. He just happened to be the only one who would not be tossed off. In fact he took control (and fell in love) which is why I am with him at all...lol..
So, the 'real you' is best to be present, however, not the exaggerated 'you'. For me that would be the occasionally flighty girl and comfortable enough now to make mistakes and plead. The 'deceptive' girl of courtship would not show that vulnerability. That was way too intimate. But time invested shows those vulnerabilities up and it's at that point the relationship goes somewhere. Not undressing and sex, that is less vulnerable. More of the 'naked soul' and this is who I really am. It is then the 'make it or break it' thoughts enter. Can I live with this or I adore this, I hope it never goes away.....Blush

I am a first and a second wife. My new husbands first wife is a nice person. We get along when we see one another. The problem is that I may have second wife syndrome because of the fact that his family, and his best friend are friends with her on FB. I read the letter and I found it funny and true. I am the 1st wife dealing with a second wife that is doing exactly what was written. I know that not all 2nd wifes are like this. Sometimes and in therapy they say that writing letters like this helps you deal with it. Sending the letter is another story. I see nothing wrong here. Its just a way for her to vent.

And one question I meant to add to my original post: If some women conceive of sex as an activity where both parties are engaged in erotic "surrender" -- then to whom or what are they surrendering? I guess they imagine it as something impersonal, like the power of love. And at the moment of climax there is an inevitable release of control that happens, even on the man's part. Judgment
The thing is, though, if judgment is so hurtful to a particular type of submissive woman who isn't able to shake off society's supposed judgment of her for being vulnerable and needing protection, then why are so many of the self same women so quick to hand down universal statements about how men and women are supposed to be?
Now, after a lot of articles and discussion, the real issue is coming out...that it's hurtful to you to feel judged for not being a dragon slayer or a resistant woman (whatever that is...I basically saw resistant women as submissive but fiesty and wanting to be subdued before enjoying submission).
But I think if you came out and said, without going into the "men must be servants and leaders, and women must be cherished and obedient" edicts that you stated at the outset as if they were written as an addendum to the Ten Commandments, that you are emotionally vulnerable and want someone to look after you, that you are happy to be cherished and please your man but can't deal with being forced to serve or sacrifice yourself, I think the reactions you would get out in vanilla society would be a lot different.
It's when these ideas are passed off as universal truths that people get their backs up. And that's when you are going to get the judgment of "you're not contributing," or you are "purely ornamental" thrown back at you.
It's possible that the way you present your ideas is what's causing the judgment, rather than some uniform political correctness that the entire rest of society subscribes to.
I've been home since my son was born. I worked for 4 months and will do some temping until a permanent person is hired. They wanted me to take the job and I told them that I couldn't do that because my family needs attention and I can't devote myself to a full time (and overtime) job and still be the wife and mother I want to be.
Guess what? No one judged me for this. Instead they practically stood on their heads trying to accommodate me. They offered to let me come in and leave on my schedule instead of the usual hours. When I told them I'd done too much overtime and had to quit, I was asked to work for them from home. I heard no judgment..in fact I got respect for putting my family first.

Girls love these games and love the attention. I would just ignore it and let her wonder what happened. The problem is if you message her, your value goes down. However, you could think up a creative message to call her out on her flakiness. She might get defensive and try to make up for it. I’ll usually try that as a last ditch effort. I figure it’s no loss either way since she’s almost gone anyway.

I think my mistake was saying “I could come pick u up at 8 if u talkin bout it”
I should have just said, “I’ll pick you up at 8.”
Then, her not responding would just basically be an invite for me to show up at 8.
Anyways, I fucked this up, so it’s time to just move on and learn from it. I’m done backtracking and trying to save it.

I would have to disagree on that point. If a guy was trying to take me out on dates (right now, all I want is a casual good time) I’d be pushing him back and /or not answering his calls. Why? because I don’t want a relationship. At all.
If I were looking for something serious like she is, the repeat dates would be a VERY good indication to me that he’s interested in something long(er) term. I would certainly not expect him to continue calling me after I said “no” 100 times to his attempts at sex (let alone, take me to nice places for dinner, a romantic date on a mountain top, invite me to his place, etc) If he did continue to call, it would give me impression he’s in it for more than just to fuck and chuck. I think her issue is with trust due to her past hurts, not questioning whether or not he’s in it for the long term. I feel he’s made that pretty clear already… or at least… he’s faking it pretty damn well ;)

Laura Doyle's The Surrendered Wife has often been criticised as advocating that women should turn themselves into Stepford wives, but The Total Woman seems to me much closer to advocating that. The Surrendered Wife has many faults to be sure, but it doesn't assume that a woman's only focus in life is her husband, home and children in quite the way The Total Woman seems to. I am all for women cherishing and focusing on their men, but Marabel Morgan appears to take the view that what a man wants is a woman who will make him, their home and children her whole life.
Some of the author's suggestions are excellent, but some seem positively frightening. She advises readers even to take up the same interests and hobbies as their husbands – yes, if fishing is his passion, you have to get up at 4 a.m. and go fishing with him for four hours if you want a good marriage; if he loves cars, you have to become knowledgeable about cars too; if he likes rugby, you have to learn the rules and the players and read the reports of games so you can talk enthusiastically to him about the latest player transfer. Why? Because when a husband talks about something important to him, some wives fail to engage with what their husband is saying and ask him to pass the salt.
If your husband is telling you something important to him (like what happened in the latest rugby game, or about his sighting of a “ruby-throated hummingbird nectaring at the zinnias”) obviously, asking him to pass the salt, or complaining about the neighbours' new garden furniture, is not ideal! But it doesn't follow that you should spend large amounts of precious ironing time (or whatever you like doing) teaching yourself ornithology or learning the rules of rugby, let alone going to a rugby match every Saturday, if that idea is about as appealing to you as ironing socks would be to me. It is perfectly possible to be supportive of a man and his interests without changing your entire life and dropping your own interests to do so. And how many men would really want a woman who spends so much time pursuing his interests that she has no time for her own? (On the other hand, quite a few women like rugby without having any idea what the rules are. All those big strong men bounding about and piling into each other in violent scraps – er, scrums, I mean.)

I've been married before and I find this marriage to be among the most tranquil times in my life. My stress load is virtually nil, I live my life as my authentic self rather as the person I had to be in order to succeed and survive, and I actually get a lot of pleasure out of taking care of my husband and our home.
The secret to having this work, I think, was in choosing a trustworthy, emotionally mature man who genuinely respects women, has no doubt that my brain is intact and fully functioning, but who simply prefers the leadership role in marriage...and this allowed me to choose and relax into the much less stressful subordinate role. I chose it and I'm happy with it...but I can UNchoose it anytime I want!

I disagree with you about 'showing interest'. Showing interest is not rocket science (knowing all the hard and intricate details) or loving everybody's hobby, it is a positive attitude that says 'I will like to know what makes this important to you'. Remember, body language is always loud and clear. When you have the right attitude, you become teachable. You can learn a lot and start enjoying some 'dumb' things

Now all of that has changed. I lost the weight I needed to lose on a slow and healthy eating and exercise plan (I wouldn't even call it a diet – it was so moderate and inclusive). For the most part, I no longer have a compulsion to overeat. I no longer drink heavily, nor crave drinking as an escape. I rarely read a fashion magazine these days, as the women in them no longer strike me as that attractive or desirable to emulate – in fact, I sometimes find myself thinking, when staring at one of those grotesque, heavily made-up bags of bones that these magazines so love to promote as the pinnacle of attractiveness, that it's a pity that poor scaggy model can't look more like me! I am no longer dissatisfied with my career: I make things happen. Unexpected results of my own unconscious making rarely sneak up on me, as they once regularly did. I'm not avoiding the knowledge of the effect that my actions have on my social and work environments any more. My subterranean efforts to sabotage my life have ceased. I don't believe that I am trying to escape or avoid any aspect of my life. Most importantly, who and what I am is no longer a dark mystery to me. I've discovered who I am, what I want from life, and am learning more each day about how to get it. I no longer let people walk all over me, and I can do things – like express anger to strangers – that were inconceivable to me six years ago. My low-level, ongoing emotion has changed from one of mild depression to one of happiness and peace with myself. I am no longer searching for a place in life; I have come home. |

Ummmmm..... then you are not the intended audience of this web site and you are unlikely to enjoy anything I write on this subject. I have nothing against you; I do not want to convert you; I do not think you are crazy: I am just writing about my own interest, not trying to change yours. Is that ok with you?
What if keeping it in the bedroom works, and neither of us is interested in thinking about our sexual connection 24/7?
Then as I said before, do what works for YOU! I have stated over and over again that I have no wish to disparage anyone else's choices. How about taking that on board now? ;-)
For you, sexuality has to pervade everything. Not everybody is like that.
I have never said they are. And nor have I for a moment thought that they are. Indeed, I'd say most are not like that, just as I also think that most people would hate a Taken In Hand relationship (unfortunately!). That's just one of those things!

But for a Taken In Hand marriage, the husband's domination is a central and desired feature of the relationship. If the wife is deliberately 'misbehaving' or even throwing a 'tantrum' - then the chances are she's doing that because she is not feeling as dominated by her man as she wants and needs to feel. In that case, his retreat from the situation can only make things worse; and it will earn him nothing but contempt from his wife, for his being such a wimp. If his only goal is to make her even madder and push her away, then retreat is the way to go. But if his goal is to increase the intimacy and the eros of their relationship, and to powerfully reestablish who's the boss, then he must provide the direct, masterful, physical domination that she needs.

You can call it spanking or discipline or taking her in hand but no civilized guy would use violence in that way – not if you mean real violence that is non-consensual. A real man can solve problems without resorting to blows. A real man uses words not a whip to settle a dispute. A real man can persuade using reasoned argument expressed without rancor. How does a whip get an argument across? You can't express much except displeasure with a whip.

Accommodating needs can't be done by the book
Men should treat a woman in the same manner that her vagina accommodates his penis. His fit should be:
soft enough to accommodate the most expansive of her desires,
tight enough to let her know that he has her surrounded,
loose enough to allow her freedom of movement,
stimulating enough to keep her excited, and
able to contain her when she explodes.
Where I have difficulty with personality analysis in interpersonal relationships – whether inspired by Colin Wilson, David Keirsey, or Isabel Myers – is when it becomes the ends rather than the means.
Women choose men whom they believe able to accommodate their needs. When men fail to rise to the occasion – whether it is failing to meet a high dominance woman's challenges, to be a good husband to the medium dominance woman and father to their children, or coaxing the low dominance woman out of her shell – then difficulties flourish like bacteria on agar.
Marriage is not so much about molding another person to accommodate one's personal tastes as it is about taking the relationship in the direction that it needs to go so that intangibles such as love, happiness, and stability retain some equilibrium.
Unlike flying sophisticated aircraft, marriage is more a seat-of-the-pants experience than it is reading the gages built by someone else. There are couples who have done everything by the book and still managed to send their relationship into a tailspin from which it never recovered.

All through history men have sacrificed themselves for women's lives. Women rarely think about the man who will love her the most and be the most loyal. It's always the strongest most dominant male who gets the girl and often he is an arsehole. Yet women who go out with these arseholes stay with them a while, break up with them and complain all men are evil. Women too are just as guilty for judging the opposite sex by their looks and women have got change because men changed a long time ago. Women need to stop being so sexist, maybe ask a man out on a date instead of always expecting the man to ask you. There are more decent guys out there than bad ones. So women have to stop acting like little princesses and give the good men a chance.

I understand where you are co
I understand where you are coming from. I am a naturally shy person, and I understand that some men are shy as well. Asking someone out on a date is a huge emotional risk. It's setting yourself up for rejection, and perhaps it isn't fair to ask men to always be the ones to face potential rejection.
That being said, kind heartedness isn't all that people look for in a relationship. The thing that initially draws people together is a spark of attraction. I am attracted to men who appear strong enough to take care of me. If that makes me sexist and immature, so be it. I would never say that you were immature if you prefered petite blondes to fat brunetts. I'd simply say you, like most men, were attracted to beautiful women. I am attracted to strong men. I see no need to apologize for that attraction. It really used to bother me that men always wanted to be with women who I felt were "beautiful bitches." It doesn't bother me anymore because I realize that attraction is part of a relationship. If you look around I'm sure you can find a woman that you wouldn't consider dating because she is not attractive to you. If she asked you out, I bet you'd be really polite...you might even take her out once and tell her you had a good time, but you'd know that there would be no way you'd get involved in a long term relationship with her. Physical attraction certainly shouldn't be the only thing that you look for in a partner, but it's hard to make a relationship work without it.

The book Join the Club (conveniently located in the Amazon widget to your left) is all about how peer pressure can be used to effect positive change. One of the most successful campaigns was making the tobacco companies evil. Teens climbed on board in droves and smoking became totally uncool. Similar programs have been successful in Africa with condom use.
Making hooking up uncool is going to be tough because women are the gatekeepers of sex, and slut shaming is the only obvious form of peer pressure available. Women are loathe to do that, for a variety of reasons.

Women may hate the hookup culture, but they OBVIOUSLY hate dating average guys even more.
I don’t know whether they do or not, but I don’t think they’ve really had an opportunity to try it. There is no dating script. Average guys can’t deploy one, and if they did women would likely not know how to respond. As Badger said, they might think it’s weird and uncomfortable to go minigolfing with a guy. This is a favorite claim in the Gamesphere. The appeal is understandable for men who are in the 90% of dissatisfied men. Game is sold on the idea that every guy can move from the 90% to the 10%. The reality is that most guys can move from involuntarily celibate to in a sexual relationship with a lot of work. A few can soar right to the top and get casual sex, like Jesus did this summer. But the odds are strongly against it. Stepping up one’s game is a good strategy, as long as the goals are realistic and achievable.

OTOH, I can definitely see OTC’s point about girls regretting having sex with someone, then getting ashamed about it and then calling it rape. Having sex like a man is not equality when basic biology and the social consequences indicate there are differences for men and women. Being told that women have to become like men and have sex like them is disempowering and oppressive.
Having the opportunity to become and engineer and not be told that one can’t do so because one is female, that is inequality, since femaleness has nothing to do with one’s ability to think and reason at that level of ability. Should we, in the name of equality, then tell all women they have to become engineers? No, if individual women have different preferences, they should not be forced into that box–that is oppressive.
I do believe we are in complete agreement there. I do support gender equity, having benefited from it myself and seen my daughter thrive in a climate of choice and opportunity. Where I believe we get into trouble is when we overcompensate. For example, you mentioned Carol Gilligan’s work. I’ve seen her speak and have some concerns about her research practices, e.g. not submitting her data for peer review. In any case, I watched the work of CG and others, like Peggy McIntosh, get implemented in the public schools here in Massachusetts.
As the mother of a son and a daughter in elementary school together, I witnessed a morphing of behavioral and learning standards that were perfectly attuned to females, and perfectly discriminatory against males. As a volunteer teacher’s aide I saw boys routinely shamed for normal boy behavior, e.g. having “ants in their pants.” I watched as recess was cut and boys had no opportunity for physical play, which they sorely needed. I also noted that although teachers were quick to raise the ADD flag, they had little patience with the children they succeeding in diagnosing.
